New
York is Craig's hometown, and Dad wanted to have a bit of that New Yorker
spirit chip off the old block. We rented an apartment in June and
lived like native New Yorkers (albeit with a Texas twang). The Twin
Towers were still standing proudly and we were delighted in how clean,
friendly and safe the city felt compared to when Craig lived there.
From Central Park to the Battery and beyond, New York is a tourist's
dream. Nearly every foot is rich with interest or excitement.
We had a wonderful time.
After the city and joined by Craig's
boyhood friend, Richard Zendel and his children, we ventured up to
Bronxville and Westchester County so the children could see Craig's
boyhood home and the Depression-era amusement park Rye Playland.
Then, we headed out to Long island and Teddy Roosevelt's home (Lizzy had
just completed a project on the Rough Rider President).
