This year our float theme was "Walden: Spider Capital of the World," to "honor" the millions of eight-legged residents who are so much a part of the Walden boating- and home-owning experience. We erected a huge web on the sailboat and hung two giant spiders on it. Smaller plastic spiders covered the float and the kids threw fake spiders and spider jewelry to the appreciative crowd. Uncle Bert and Uncle Charles both came to Walden for the festivities and our Walden neighbors, the Lorants (Teresa, daughter Jessica, grandson Diego and niece, Mercedes) also rode on our float.
The day was capped off by a concert of patriotic music on the lawn at the Walden Yacht Club, followed by the spectacular annual fireworks display over Lake Conroe. The concert was performed by the Conroe Symphony, including its distinguished french horn virtuoso and our Walden neighbor, Breanna Anderson. Whoever said "the simple pleasures are the best" was right. Happy 222nd Birthday USA!
