APOLLO

Apollo, the god of the sun, music, healing, and  truth, was the son of Zeus and Leto, and had a twin sister Artemis.

Hera (Zeus's wife) was jealous of Leto (Apollo's mother), so Hera sent her to the floating Island of Delos. Leto was pregnant at the time, and she gave birth to twins Apollo and Artemis.

When Apollo grew, he had many love affairs, but the one that was well known was his affair with Daphne, the river nymph. Apollo always teased Eros (Cupid), so Eros punished Apollo by hitting Daphne with an arrow of disgust and repulsion.  On the other hand, he hit Apollo with an arrow filled with love for Daphne.  Apollo chased Daphne across the face of the earth, until Daphne, exhausted, cried out to Mother Earth.  She agreed to help Daphne, and she turned her into a birch tree.  Apollo went away feeling rejected.

Much later, Zeus assigned Apollo the job of taking the sun across the sky in his chariot and bringing the moon into the sky at night.

I think Apollo is interesting  because he is the god of many things, and his life story is unbelievable.
